Penn GSE Staff Data Portrait Mural
As part of the 2022 University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education Staff Retreat, I designed an interactive data and experience mural that transformed staff participation into a collaborative visual representation of the Penn GSE community.
The installation invited staff members to answer five professional questions by selecting a series of colorful geometric shapes. Each participant's selections formed a unique "data portrait," which was then added to a collective mural alongside those of their colleagues. The result was a vibrant visualization of the diverse experiences, interests, and identities that make up the Penn GSE community.
The project combined principles of data visualization, experience design, and community engagement, turning individual responses into a shared storytelling artifact. Working in collaboration with Penn GSE staff and the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School Fabrication Lab, custom components were laser-cut to create an engaging, hands-on experience. The mural prototype was designed with the intention of becoming a permanent installation in Penn GSE's newly renovated building, serving as a lasting representation of the school's culture and community.
