Welcome Back! Penn GSE Passport
Role: Designer & Communications Strategist
Client: University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE)
Overview
As Penn GSE employees returned to campus following the COVID-19 pandemic, the school launched an 18-month community-building initiative designed to reconnect faculty and staff through a series of social events, wellness activities, and campus engagement opportunities.
To support the initiative, I designed the Welcome Back! Penn GSE Passport, an interactive tool that encouraged participation and fostered a sense of community.
Challenge
After an extended period of remote work, Penn GSE sought a creative way to motivate employees to reconnect with colleagues, reengage with campus life, and participate in a sustained series of community-building events.
Solution
Inspired by travel passports, I designed a pocket-sized booklet that allowed employees to document their participation throughout the program. Attendees received a custom stamp or sticker at each event, creating a tangible record of their engagement while introducing an element of friendly competition.
Employees who attended the most events were recognized and awarded prizes, helping to sustain enthusiasm and participation over the course of the initiative.

Impact
The Welcome Back! Passport transformed event attendance into an engaging, gamified experience that encouraged connection, collaboration, and campus engagement. The program helped support Penn GSE's post-pandemic return by creating meaningful opportunities for employees to rebuild relationships and strengthen community across the school.
